ok.. ive sat back and read this for a few days now.. it seems like you guys are missing the point. its not that jim or ray do a bad job or any ref for that reason. its enforcing the rules. no one wants to be the "bad guy", buy a few dq's and other forms of disipline need to be done. ive seen people abuse pit riding... no numbers on bikes or backs,
PEDAL BIKES AT THE TRACK!!!, loose dogs, the list goes on and on.... for some people these rules, NOT GUIDELINES!!!, come second nature. but for some.. hey why not.. i dont get in trouble and if i do.. they just yell at me... pfff big whoop!!!! ive seen 2 exp and a bunch of am's jumping on a yellow at valley... i ran up to the ref for the day and .. he just shook his head. were any of them dq... warning... docked a lap??? nope!!! i think the ref do a great job other then enforcing. i know there are over 200 riders and only 1 ref, but at son point you gotta be the bad guy and not be "best of friends" dq a few riders.. and see if other say.. damn that coulda been me.... maybe i should watch myself!!! i know i would and you say you learned too Ray!!! thats my 2 bucks worth...

I do not think you folks are getting the point nor read or understand what Ray said. You misssed the most important point that has been said.  " .... I listen to both sides, and make a decision." I have been judged by people that are zellous, cut and dry. I have been judged by people who  are irresponsible and have only one side of the story. This is not healthy for the sport. You do not have to be the BAD GUY. You gain no respect, by being the BAD GUY. You gain respect by being respectful, fair, reasonable, and  known to used common sense and good judgement.  Ray and Jim have gain my respect  and trust by thier actions over the last three years.

i get the point!!!! "i listen to both side and make a decision"???? but is it enforced!!! THATS THE POINT!!!.. i really dont wanna get at a he said she said, i can piss further than you contest. i too have alot of respect for the refs we have.. but theres only one per day.. sometimes two if ray shows up!!! we need more eyes and ears!!!!

ya know.. after poting this i was thinking, i heard once that you shouldnt bitch if you dont have a solution. i think we need 2 or 3 fulltime refs. now i know money is a issue so i'm gunna be the first.. i will (next year) volunteer my reffing ability when ever i am trackside. i try to be trackside as much as possible now.. but will be looking for things more. if this is something that the ref's and MMS want. i will do it.

Shawn you'd make an good "assistant referee": your first job is to police those pesky pedal bikes that are running amuck all over the place.

luckly Kevin.. most of the bikes stay home... but there are still a few that ride em. trust me i would LOVE to bring my bike to the track... with tracks like hemonds and 207... you kinda need one if your a vet :-)

I've seen my share of penalties as a racer, spectator, track staff and refferee. There are cases where a warning is sufficient and there are times when someone blatently breaks the rules. There are also times when a penalty has been given to a rider or their crew and it wasn't inforced, for what ever reason. There needs to be a more defined protocol for infractions and how they are handled. Some type of form submitted by the official, signed by the rider or party with rider responsible for the infraction, what the rule book states and the penalty for such infraction and whether or not the rule was inforced or they were let off with a warning. This shuold be kept on file with each track and organization to see if these people make a habit of breaking the rules.

Not many people like to be the bearer of bad news, but if it's what your being PAID to do then do it!

Just to enlighten some folks, penalties,DQ's,warnings, docked laps, helmet straps, walk your bike, slow your bike, notes taken, chased unwanteds back into the woods, cops involved,no wrist bands, assist emt's,water the track, start some one's bike, hold the gate for a fouled plug, rearrange the schedule, move the parent from a blind back side of a jump,... just cause some events go unnoticed doesn't mean the ref's are not doing there job or are soft!

To remind you guy's I started this thread, to bring to attention, about some racers jumping on a yellow flag. It was dealt with, now you guy's worry about your next holeshot! (and if your to far away from the gate...we'll deal with it, the way we think it's right!)

Don't make me into a monster, I love the maine series, and it's people, let's keep the charracter that make this series so awesome.

and yes someone did do some thing to my cornflakes this morning #790 Ray

do you need a hug Ray?? thats one reason why i almost kept outta this. i didnt want to seam like it was a Ray.. or ref bashing. ya know those things you metioned.. is that really the job of the ref. i got to thinking yesterday.... and should the ref have to be the whole track policeman or just in the races. the ref should be making sure the "game" is played correctly and fair. jumping on a yellow... thats your call. but wrist bands and bikes and dogs or anything other than racing... you shouldnt have to deal with. 24 races with 200+ riders is alot of watching sorry to get you pissy Ray... i hope thins mornings cornflakes dont have alittle "wang" to em

No jumping under the yellow flag is not just a rule to harass riders, it is a very serious offense.  Years ago I was racing at Middleboro, MA w/ NESC and a rider crashed on a set of doubles.  I came around and saw the yellow flag, medics, downed rider etc., and singled the jumps like the rules said.  The rider behind me did not care and doubled them.  His front tire landed on my shoulder, spun my bike around and broke my leg clean through in 4 places.  2 surgeries, 6 months on crutches, $30k in medical bills, a year off the bike.  Think about that the next time you jump under the yellow flag!!!!

I was often in the flagging stand on top of the spectator jump at MX-207 on Sunday.

During one of the races someone tried to do a whip over the spectator jump and landed flat on the jump, Needless to say he didn't land the whip.  I instantly had the yellow flag out and I have to say the next rider made eye contact with me and slowed down and respected the flag. ALL the other riders slowed down and respected the rider down (he got up very quickly).

I think all of you know that MX-207 is very tough when it comes to the yellow flag most staff members have pen and paper with them to write down rider #. The rider numbers are called in by many staff members placed around the track.   MX-207 actually has at least one staff member respond to every yellow flag just  to watch and protect all involved and Sunday was no exception.

With all the comments that have been raised all eyes were on the yellow flag's.   There were not many yellow flags which is wonderful, But when there was one the riders respected the flag and the rider.

Great job everyone.
