You guys are missing the biggest revelation of all this ..... Mike has a girl friend. Just kidding. Just to throw another perspective out there, I would give my left @#$ if my son could have run even a lap on any day in any conditions. Consider yourself, child or friend lucky that they are healthy enough to throw their leg over a bike and race. After 5 years of living motocross, it is a major disappointment not to see your child doing what he lives to do. Once they race MX and get hooked, their is no substitute. Reid is racing karts and winning, but it is not the same. Unfortunately, he has had 9 broken bones in those 5 years of MX and although everything else has healed fine, he is not yet strong enough (weak core) to ride a bike. He goes to sleep every night dreaming of being back at the track with his friends. He wakes up every morning wondering why he gets hurt from his one crash per year when others crash harder and more often and walk away. I have to tell him it is just the way it is and there is nothing anyone can do about it. He can't even stand to go and watch a race as it makes the whole MX withdrawal issue worse (we are working on this and hope to at least get out to a race this Fall to see everyone).

So, the next time you complain about a track (we are very lucky to have a facility such as HMXP in our State), the conditions or a lack of laps, please take a moment and think about how luck you are to be able to be participating in this great sport.

I agree !!! My son isn't racing this year but has raced for the past 3 and has raced in the mud and is good in the mud, but...you can't compare other tracks to Hemonds big track !! Would everyone rather see someone get seriously hurt, would that be better than loosing out on some money or motos ?!! I don't think so. Why would anyone want to take that chance? the people that are complaining about how they are never going to come back, you guys are stupid. Hemonds is the best track/facility i have ever riden at. sooo, its your loss if you dont ever come back to hemonds!!..... and go theresa.

I think the rack is more dangerous with no mud, the mud slows the racing down a lot. I guess you guys can't go pro then because they won't cancel the race because of a little mud. Remember at the regionals and couple of years ago that track was horrible but they still ran the race.

This is BULL ****! Have been busy and just had a chance to log on since Sunday. Am not, going to even read, any further on this post. Anybody, who would want their Rider to continue under the conditions that were present at the time of the cancelation, are IDIOTS, period. Money, my ***! The safety issue and the ruining of equipment is just a natural and responsiable concern and so much more important. Get a life and figure out what is really impotant in life before you are facing a tragedy.

to ktm 904..planning a race ont the 4th of july weekend...we tried that but jolly rogers insisted on having that weekend and we didn't want to run on top of it. we ran the 4th weekend last year (july 7th & 8th 2007)..worked out great..just couldn't do it this year..although it was the plan..

and it doesn't always draw more people some familys like to go camping or go visit relatives on the fourth..instead of racing mx like every other weekend. can you blame them?

oh yeah AND winchester has a race this weekend.

and to the mister 90y. there were plenty of people at that riders meeting that decided no go..i don't think 2 more riders would have made a difference inside or outside.

come to the next race at hemonds. and come to the riders meeting..open your ears i think my mom will have something nice to say for all of you to hear. maybe please some of you gung ho racers out there. and probably wont please some others but hey...as long as we please some of you thats all that matters right? wrong. if you've been complaining just jump into somebody elses shoes that would have rather canceled..like we did...ever thought that it made them happy? and not you..aw shux. well it seems that we can never please everyone..so give somebody else a chance to be happy once in a while..it wont hurt. i promise.:)

the weekend of the 4th... then people would bitch that they cant go away on vaca cuz of the classic. you will never please em all!!! so please yourself!!! the hemonds dont need to atract any business... the track speaks for it self!! :D and if you knew theresa... she's a firecracker!! go ahead and piss you off some more... she'll only get worse. :P and on the 4th of july week... it isnt aways a 3 day weekend.. just this year it is. last year was on a wednessday??/ so how would that have worked. HELLO??? has anyone ever met him..well his names Micheal Hemond. hes 23 years old. works about 100+ hours a week. barely has time to spend with his girlfriend or his family. Every second of daylight usually sees my brother on the track. Im not sure if anyone noticed the fact that we now have the biggest track on all of the east caost? yes please thank my brother for that.....he deserves it.

My sister too...shes works 5 days a week here at the track...she has 2 very young children and a husband to care for..yeah i know she should be able to do it all..just like everybody else in the world.

and lets see..im part of the family too. i dont really do much not going to lie to any of you. but the emotional stress of living under this roof...none of you have any idea what its like NONE OF YOU. i work for my dad during the week running after parts..yes easy job..i work at the track on the weekend and during the week if it needs my help. my job at the track is the starting gate. would you like to deal with all of the people that have made posts on here...or allthe parents that try ripping your head off because youre the colosest person to them at the time? no i dont think you would. my job isa little stressful. and you know what..Ive learned not to take ANY **** from the riders. or their parents.

rather than the majority of the people on this rediculous post bitching...they should be thanking my whole family for putting their LIFE into this business..nevermind the money that all of you think we have tons of.

NOW how about everyone that has bitched about the way we run our business goes to another track...goes to another state...goes to another organization...go ahead...race there for a year...come back and tell us what you think.

as far as i know and from what ive heard we have the best racing facility in all of New England. take a look around.

what other track has perfectly groomed grounds...grass parking(and plenty of it)..water hookups..undercover area to watch the races..full time employees working all week everyweek to keep the place looking as good as we can make it..can somebody tell me who has all of that?...oh and not to mention we're trying to open a restaraunt...which will cost more money...that we have tons of according to some of you imbeciles.

does anybody realize how much it costs to run this place. if we were in it for the money we would have quit the day we started. were in it for the love of the sport and the people(usually).

Oh and not to mention the riders meeting we held to decide if we were to run or not. I was there..in the flesh with my eyes open. and guess what...over 70%ofthe people there were RIDERS not spectators like you know it all riders have been saying. Ok..if somebody is wearing their street clothes that means theyre a spectator not a rider. because when you ride you must wear your gear ALL day. hello have you ever done that? no its nice not to have to wear your gear all day. there were plenty of peole down there without gear on that were riders.how do i know that? i have to see every face that rides a dirtbike when they get onto the starting gate.

now a note to the genral public:

go ahead and try to bash my family again. because as you can see it really pleases me. not to mention my mother father sister and brother.

come on over the month before the next new england clssic. take my place if you wish. i just would like you all to see what it takes. and how to deal with my parents in a VERY VERY high stress environment.

and yes i have thought about everything i said in this post..unlike some other posters. think before you speak or type f you will. it really makes you look like less of an ***.

To the Hemond's,

Have you guys considered waiting a weekend and doing a 4th of july deal? You could do a three day event like the regional, and being the fourth of july weekend it might even attract families to spend the week up there to make it a vacation(which could contribute money to the town, your planned restaraunt, practice, etc.)

also, i've worked with a friend at another track around here plenty of times and the past and I know the hard work that goes into the track and entire facility to get ready for a regular race, nevermind a race with that many people. alright theresa. i just wanted to make it clear that I wasn't bashing you, mike, serae, or anybody else. you guys have one of the best tracks around, and i was impressed with the stuff that was done in preparation for this weekend. it seemed perfect until sunday was cancelled, which obviously some people are going to be angry about. I just think that there should have been a different approach at the problem of how the races are going to go down, rather than just do we want to cancel or not. Next time I think you guys should just try to figure out a different way to go about it rather than cancel, because everybody I know was really disappointed about not being able to ride. The track looked terrible but if the dirt is there, it's ridable. My first race ever was with MMS at Valley a couple years back and the track was definately muddier than that, and I loved every second of it.

If people don't wanna ride on a muddy, rough track, then you either don't have the heart to be a racer, or you should just grow a set and get out there and ride, not vote to cancel it.

I love you guy's track, and I hope you don't think I started this topic to get these replies from people, if anyone should be upset with anyone, it should be the ones who didnt get to ride against the ones who decided they wanted to go home and watch tv , or take a nap instead. This is motocross after all.

I'm not here to complain but what I would like to know is what is a "riders meeting?" is it only for the riders to decide if the race is to be cancelled or everyone. Again not to complain we were almost to the tall grass in the field towards the track and when the announcement was made that there was going to be a meeting we did not hear the announcement, so there were quite a few riders who did not get the choice to vote or spectators if they get to vote. We do appreciate the hard work everyone does for this race track but you do have to understand where some of these riders are coming from

GREAT JOB HEMONDS FAMILY!!!! I can only hope they want to continue building this event each year! I can't believe the work that gets done between each race we attend there the Place is a First Class Facility one of the best in the States (and yes I have been to all of the National Tracks in the US of A) and this one rates right up there with the best!!! 5 stars from me! For the people who are whining on here about the money they have spent..........well we all have spent a lot of money to attend, it isn't cheap anymore and since when has any racing sport been cheap even when I was racing in the 70's and 80's it cost me most of my paycheck each week to attend but having looked back on it I never regretted it even when races were canceled because of bad weather....oh yes they did cancel races back then! And stop your bitching about not getting all your races in because back in the 70's and 80's in NESC you could travel all the way from Northern Maine to Southwick to race and have to run qualifiers just to get to do your motos so if you didn't finnish good in your qualifier or LCQ you got to do 3 maybe 5 laps and go home not having even ridden a Moto..........as for the people who say they are not going back to Hemonds MX park.......to bad your LOSS! I would have loved to race at such a fine facility that has HOT showers........how many tracks in New England have that........after a long day of racing or out being on the track like I am it is nice to ride home cleaned up.........Clara and crew in the concession stand do a great job every weekend we are there....putting up in the cold and heat in that kitchen isn't any party but they are there every morning that I climb out of bed and want one of those MX moto muffins.......Porta potties that are pumped out every day of the 2 and 3 day events and they offer to pump your motor home, wow what a service!!!............... Oh and the barbeque for $5 ribs, chicken, and corn on the cob.........name me one restaurant that you can get that at todays prices oh ya Kudos to Rosco for braveing the cold and rain to do that for us he is fired up for next year already,, wants to run that special all day woo hoo! DJ one night and a Band for Saturday night all for the price of your ticket.

I understand everyone wants to race and no one wants to be called a Sally but they did everything possible to run the Classic in a professional manner and the rain gods didn't cooperate....get over it and get your entry in for next year because even with all the bashing being done the Hemonds will step up to the plate and continue to produce some of the best motocross on the east cost because of the love of the sport from the Hemonds family is why we have this excellent facility. Also another KUDOS to the moto x families who were there all week working to make this an event that all of us Motocrossers in the state can be proud of and the refs who showed up to help!

Everyone that voted to cancel was parents or spectaters. and the riders who voted to cancel aren't die hard motocrossers. I think the only people who should of got a vote was riders not parents or spectators.

but the majority were not riders!! but i think it shouldnt have been up to us. it should be up to the reff and the track owners. dont give us the chance.. make the choice for us. cuz i voted.. and still lost. so whats the point. either way you cant change it and it is what it is. i hang my heaf saying damn.. that weekend kinda sucked, but what can we do about it... other than bitch on here. the weekend wasnt the best... but it wasnt the fault of Serae, the Hemonds, or the workers.... just mother nature, that bitch!!:P

the only thing i don't like about that, was that it was kinda obvious that the majority that ruled was spectators, which of course are going to want to leave rather than stand in the rain and watch people ride dirtbikes. i only saw like one person with their gear on in the whole group inside.

you guys did the right thing, but i don't think enough time was given for riders themselves to get down to the meeting, rather than the people who were already in the area that just walked a few steps over. the track was trashed but i've seen and ridden much worse and it would have gotten much better within a few motos.

still, i totally understand why everyone on here's pissed off about not being able to ride more than one of three motos, if I was riding I would have felt exactly the same.

i agree i think the promoters should have finished the day instead of asking us if we wanted to finish there should be no question if we wanted to finish. the entry fee says no refunds but it doesn't say anything about if they cancel. We left hemonds and went to mx207 on the way home they had a four wheeler race there. they said it pour there too. but they still kept it open and after they let a few races out the track was dry. if we would of ran the big track yesterday there would of been only one line around the track bt it would of still been fun. I think they should give us an open practice to make us happy. I only got 2 out of the 6 motos that i was supposed o get. i love riding in the mud because im good at it. ANd im sure a lot of other people are too.

I think the voting system is flawed. All of the people I spoke with were dissappointed not to have the opportunity to continue racing. I was not racing Sunday b/c I banged my shoulder up a little, but I was prepared to get wet and muddy helping my friends race the mud. I know the big track was in really bad shape. I heard one person have a good idea about switching everyone to the old track for short shootout type motos. I don't think we should vote, I think the promotors should do everything possible to finish the races somehow. Most people don't look forward to racing in the mud, but many times it's the race you remember and look back on fondly. Mx is not NASCAR, it's about racing in all conditons.

This vote system is not going to help grow the sport in Maine. If riders think races will get cancelled because of rain, they are not going to show up on Sunday. It's Summer in Maine, there's a chance of rain almost everyday!

beleive me.. i'm very upset about the past weekend. all i wanted to do is ride my bike and get some good laps in. i was looking forward for this race for a long time. i wanted to race too.. even if it was raining buckets. but i just wanted to voice out that it wasnt the track owners fault. maybe things coulda ran smoother on sat.. or faster?? but the rain was bad, it woke me up sat night. i too was glad to know it was overwith.. cuz i was gettign cold and wet and cranky :P i hot shower and a nap is was i needed, and got. i hope next year the weather goes in our favor.. i mean how long did we go with rain. now it rains every day??? maybe since the race is postponed next week..... and the hemonds are going away.. they could get the staff together and hold an open practice... free for NEC racers only :-) now that would be sweet :D:P:D

If you read all the posts I think that most of the guys that are unhappy were supposed to race but were not given the choice. I'm sure the hemonds are probably more dissapointed then any of us, do you realize the time and hard work they put into that, and they did not gain any money from it being cut short due to weather. There is a lot of consession money not made. I for one had a few friends that we're going to show up sunday to watch and didn't. I'm sure many others planned on coming as well, until they watched the 6:00 am sunday morning weather forecast..

I suppose if the races would of went on a few bikes blew up or a few races got hurt or maybe a group of people in the tower got struck by lightning, people would be mad saying how could they have let the race go on. I'm very dissapointed at having only one moto, but it is from the weather wich no one has control over. The feeling i got from people in the pits was they we're kinda relieved that they didn't have to race in those conditions.. With that kinda of water and mud and hills it wouldn't been pretty..

this makes me laugh.... people that didnt even race, are bitching about it. don't you think that if the Hemond family could wave a magic wand and it changed everything they would? of course!!! if you really think that Serae is sitting at home counting piles of cash.. rubbing her hands and saying yes.. yes.. my plan worked great!!. i think not. that family loves the sport just as much if not more than us riders. does anyone know where the 10,000 buck came from for the pay out??? it didnt come from sponsors.. it came from the hemond bank account. yeah we are all pissed... yeah we are all dissapointed. i got 6th after slidding out in the new section up top. so no trophy or plague for me... so yeah i am pissed and dissapointed too, but im not blaming anyone but myself and the weather. as you noticed.... its pretty late sunday or early monday.... my point is take some time and think about it before typing on here. yeah maybe the site laps sucked on sat.. but the whole thing wasnt the hemonds fault... thats my 2.67 cents :P

I must say that i was only given 1/3 races because of those dumb HOT laps yesterday its not like the changed so drastically that we need to see it again, I mean common. If we would of had practice in the morning to everyone and not hot laps then we would be 1 round left and it would be more satisfying but to the people like me who only got 1/3 or 2/6 of there races in and you've been there since Friday or Thursday it sucks. I mean talk about a waste of money that you will never get back for something you paid for but weren't given. I drove 6 hours to race 3 races and I only got 1. Nothing we can do now but it still why weren't we given a chance to vote or race the original track? -Travis

My dad spent $400 this weekend so that my brother and I could race, that was just to Hemonds, never mind the money for gas and other things. we race motocross you have to expect a little mud, thats why there called DIRT bikes. WE have got ripped off twice in the past 2 weeks from Hemonds, The MMS and now the classic. We didn't spend $400 for 2 motos, we should have got some money back or at least a free race. If someone wants to go home because they don't like the mud, let them go home but let the people who want to ride, ride. could care less if i ever went back to hemonds and gave them money to race ever again.

I am not trying to be a jerk or to bitch here but this topic does bug me. Its not so much about the money, or a bashing on the Hemonds family, but more about the character of our sport. If you thought the track was too washed out or not "firm" enough then it should be your decision to not race. If your afraid your gonna pull a Chad Reed and blow your motor on the last lap b/c of water then put your bike in the truck and do not race. It is the great equalizer and the guys who want to win a series will roll the dice and take their chances with the track and their bikes. This is still a competitive sport and by canceling a very challenging race all your doing is watering down the competitive edge that draws so many of us to the sport in the first place. I want to state again that I admire the Hemonds crew for what they have done and will definitely ride/race there when I get a chance. Its just a rain cancellation is troubling. Matt

I dont remember a race being called for rain. They do get cancelled by the weather but if you have spectators that pay to get in and dont get to see a race why cant they be refunded?

Look at it this way, you didnt blow your bike up(which happens a lot in the mud) Your still walking, the sun is going to shine again, and you will ride again. Every rider that I talked to was glad to see the races stop, the sun out , not raining when they were packing up, and all of the people that drove hours to get there was going to get home at a descent hour. Atleast we have a facility like hemonds to use in our back yard. Thanks mike and all of the hemonds family for all that you have done and all of your hard work. Its sad but no matter what you try or how hard you work you allways allways have people bitching. Thanks again.

Apparently 1 track in Maine knows what true motocross is, not Hemonds, but Skowhegan. They had weather issues today as well but still were able to make the riders happy. It poured early in the morning but they didn't cancel... It poured in the first few races and they kept going... They did not stop until there was thunder and lightning in which they took a BREAK and did not CANCEL! There may have been an hour wait in the middle of the moto, but they did finish all races to be fair for riders. All it took was a little time to let the storm pass and then racing was back on. Rain or Shine. This is the third mud race that Skowhegan has had in a row, yet they still manage to pull off at least 1 moto no matter what; they stick to their rule: Rain or Shine!
