Can somebody recommend a chain that is the best buy for the dollar based on some scientific fact (ie: not just your favorite brand but which chain costs the least money but lasts the most hours). For example I average 13.08 hours for my renthal chains and they cost $69 so that ends up being $5.28 per hour of operation. At one point I had tested an RK chain and was able to get 33% more life out of it but can't remember how much I paid for it. Does anybody else track life expectancy of parts like I do?

The best chain for your dollar in my opinion is the regina.  Renthal, all you are paying for is the name.

And also, people do not track parts life expectancy like you do.

I think if you tracked the hours on your parts you would be shocked.  I've figured out it costs approximately $40 per hour to run my 450 and that's with squeezing the most hours as possible out of my parts... this doesn't include unexpected damage due to crashes...this includes normal maintenance; everything from gas, oil, tires, clutches, top end replacements, valve adjustments, etc etc based on actual usage and life expectancy.  That's what they should publish in motocross magazines but of course they probably don't want people to know how much they are really spending on motocross.

$40 an hour!!  I didn't want to know that!!!  Better make it count everytime we start them up!!  BTW, I ran a DID Gold Chain with Tag sprokets last year, and they lasted all year.  Don't know how many hours, but I rode at least twice a week.
