| | I've got an '04 CRF450 that's burning oil. I've replaced the valve guide seals twice, checked the head and the top of the cylinder for warpage, measured the cylinder for diameter and out of round, measured the piston diameter, measured the ring gap, replaced the rings and honed the cylinder. I can't figure out why the thing still is burning oil. Someone told me that I'm not supposed to hone a Nickisil(spelling?) cylinder. Does anyone know if this is true? Could this be the cause of my problem? The cylinder was honed the first time last year and ran good for a while. I honed it again after I started having problems but nothing helped. HELP! The season is almost over and I've only got one race in. |

The season is almost over and I've only got one race in.i beleive you can hone them... you can not bore them. ive had my older suzukis honed with nikasil and they where fine.

| | you can hone chrome bores,but you must use a diamond hone or a special hone made by weisco. When you honed your cylinder and it worked for a bit shows that it is ring seal. Now you have to look at your cylinder and see if it looks sandblasted where the rings ride.Chrome bores are very hard,may measure fine but be bad.Check the face of your rings see if they are sharp. You could have a air filter problem. Also some syn oils will not let the rings seal! J.D. |
