| | So the other day I was changing my oil in my bike and I was screwing the bolt back in (with my fingers) and it was not tightning up. It felt like I had a screw that was too small in there so i unscrewed it thinking i had mixed it up with one of the 7 other bolts you have to remove to drain the oil. Upon removal i noticed the bolt had a small shaving of metal on them.....known as the threads. Has anyone had any problems with this, the threads on the bolt are fine so i know i didnt crossthread it, i was screwing it in with my hand.......... Last year someone had asked me if I had, had problems with the welds in that area, i guess theres didnt hold and all the oil leaked out, i dont really remember. but I'm wondering if that whole section of the bike has a problem with it, becuase I had just warmed it up. I'm wondering if maybe the heat softened the metal or something and the threads came out. so if anyone has any information on it that would be greatly appreciated! |

I'm wondering if maybe the heat softened the metal or something and the threads came out. so if anyone has any information on it that would be greatly appreciated! dont know about the problem.. but if you put a hardened steel fine thread thru a aluminum whole... you could "shave" off alittle of the aluminum. i would clean it up real good.. and use the correct bolt. got real slow and if have to.. use alittle force.. as long as its still lined up right. you might be able to "cut" the threads back and save it.... if not.. by a RM  long time no speak Rachel???

| i had the 06 yzf 250 and i had never had this problem with any yamaha i have ever had. we would start the bike and ride it around to warm up the motor before we changed the oil and nothign like this ever happened so idk wat it could be u might have striped the thread on the case alittle and its not grabbing the bolt....

| | Ya i know shawn looooong time haha but i'm gonna drill and re tap it, using the next size up bolt, thats what the mechanic at the shop told me to do, he says he's done it on em before so hopefully it works |

Ya i know shawn looooong time haha but i'm gonna drill and re tap it, using the next size up bolt, thats what the mechanic at the shop told me to do, he says he's done it on em before so hopefully it works flush out the motor real good before you fill it with oil....

| | Try a new bolt first,i have had the same problem as you decribed. The new bolt took care of the problem. |
