I am posting this to all track owners/operators. In case you are not aware. It is time to come together in front of the state of maine. You maybe for it or against it. Either way your voice can be heard. This does not just pertain to motocross.

The state of maine has written a bill in ragards to all motor vehicle events. It is bill #LD908, you can go to the state web site and view its contents.

I will be there to voice my thoughts and if you want to be heard now would be the time. The hearing is March 19 at 9:30am in room # 436

This could change cost of operation for everyone and or cause set backs in the racing world. I will keep racers updated on our track web site.

If you need any more info, just email me at raceme2@roadrunner.com

Thank you

Sandy of the Skowhegan Motocross Track

The link to the bill is http://janus.state.me.us/legis/LawMakerWeb/externalsiteframe.asp?ID=280023572&LD=908&Type=1&SessionID=7.  It sounds like if this bill passes, everyone that competes in a "motor vehicle event" will have to have a special licens issued by the state.  This is totally rediculous, everyone needs to read this bill and make sure your local senators and representatives know that you are opposed to it.  Do you want the state to decide who can and who cannot race?  I know Mainers continue to vote for more and bigger state government, but if this bill passes, MMS and all the tracks that participate could be done for good.  -Russ

The way I read this, it looks like they are talking about the tracks being licensed, not each individual. Correct me if i'm wrong. Either way I think I will contact AMA and get them involved.

The Bill did NOT PASS !! It was rejected by all members, including the State Rep. who signed the bill requesting this law be placed. I spoke on behalf of Skowhegan and I want to Thank Mike Hemond of Hemond's and Bill Stewart of MX207 for also speaking in front of the State. It was nice to see the other track operators attend. If ever anything gets re-written or purposed I will keep you updated.

The bill purposed was not for each rider. The sum of it all was so the State could get more money and tell everyone what and how to operate any form of event that used or displayed a motor vehicle. This would have created havoc beyond normal thinking. In the mx world, it would also allow the state to tell you if you can have a double or a table top on your track, what type of dirt to use, it could require a concrete barrier for you to run into if you went off the track and only allow you to watch the race from 1 mile away. It was a complete disaster waiting to happen. This being brought to the State's attention allowed them to see what a disaster they would have on their hands in all forms of racing or displaying a motor vehicle. This would even include you going out in your antique car, meeting for lunch with another friend who drove his antique car. You would need a special license as you were displaying a motor vehicle event.(Because people were looking at the vehicles you displayed) This is only a small area of how far fetched this bill would have created.

Thank you all for reading.
